When you’re in a relationship, you and your partner experience inevitable, new adventures that create memories that help to improve the bond you share. A couple weekends ago my boyfriend and I took our first road trip to Omaha, Nebraska. We chose Omaha because it was relatively close and easy to conquer in the course of a three-day weekend. The primary purpose for going to Omaha was to attend the Omaha Zoo & Aquarium. Neither one of us had been there in over a decade, so it felt like we were seeing everything for the first time.
We share a mutual favorite section of the zoo, which is the spacious, beautiful aquarium. We enjoyed watching the penguins jump into the water and energetically swim around, and sitting in the transparent tunnel and witnessing the enormous fish, sharks and stingrays swim over and around us. Visiting the aquarium always prompts the desire to travel somewhere more exciting someday, whether that be for a honeymoon getaway destination or an anniversary vacation. Being able to share this childhood memory with the man of my dreams only increased the love I have for that aquarium.
This road trip marks the first adventure within the life that we’re going to have together. Being able to escape reality for even three days brought us closer together. It allowed us to temporarily forget about any stress with work, family or in my case, the future. It felt wonderful to just be in the moment. To lounge around a hotel room, cuddling in a plush queen-sized bed, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. I’m excited for our next luxurious escape.
